Raksha Bandhan holds a special place in the heart of Akshay Mhatre, who essays the role of Girdhar in Anmol TV’s Humari Radha. While Akshay does not have a biological sister, his connection with his Rakhi sisters is deeply rooted in a tradition he inherited from his father. What began as his father’s way of celebrating the festival has now become a cherished tradition that Akshay continues to carry forward.
Interestingly, Akshay’s father too did not have a biological sister. During his childhood, girls from the neighbourhood would tie Rakhi on his wrist, and those bonds remained special over the years. Inspired by his father’s relationships and the warmth with which he celebrated the festival, Akshay has followed the same path.
For Akshay, the beauty of the festival lies in keeping these relationships alive across generations. Even the tradition of gifting has evolved over the years, from his father helping him choose gifts earlier to his wife now taking over that role.
Sharing his Raksha Bandhan tradition, Akshay Mhatre aka Girdhar says, “What makes Raksha Bandhan special for me is that it has always been about the relationships we choose to cherish. Today, I have my own Rakhi sisters, and celebrating with them feels like a beautiful continuation of something my father began. Earlier, my father would help me pick their gifts, and now my wife has happily taken over that responsibility. I still remember gifting them silver jewellery a few years ago, they absolutely loved it. For me, that’s the beauty of Raksha Bandhan; some traditions become meaningful because of the love and memories attached to them, and I’m happy to keep this one going.”
Meanwhile, Humari Radha is set to take an emotional turn as Radha’s growing doubts about Girdhar (Akshay Mahatre) begin to challenge her faith in their relationship. Whether these doubts eventually lead her to uncover the truth about Girdhar and Shanaya (Vaidehi Nayar) remains to be seen.
